MECHANICAL INTEGRITY

What is Mechanical Integrity?

Mechanical integrity is the ability of an equipment or system to perform its intended function correctly and safely throughout its life cycle, without the risk of failure or loss of containment capacity.

Every industrial plant must guarantee the mechanical integrity of its critical process equipment, ensuring that it is properly designed, manufactured, installed, operated, and maintained to prevent failures or loss of containment that pose a risk to people, facilities, and the environment.

Critical process equipment in an industrial plant includes pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, piping systems, and their associated systems.

Why is mechanical integrity important?

Industrial plants must develop and implement their respective Mechanical Integrity programs, which include risk analysis, inspections, testing, and maintenance, to reduce risk and increase operational performance and reliability.
